Ladies and gentlemen, as of May 27, Google has released the next iteration of its open source social networking back-end, OpenSocial 0.8! There are only a few changes which are incompatible with previous releases of OpenSocial, the most notable of which are the removal of the VIEWER_FRIENDS and OWNER_FRIENDS objects, and the requirement (formerly, it was optional) that the OpenSocial container implements a REST-based API according to RESTful specifications. In the case of the former, newFetchPeopleRequest is now going to function a little bit differently. Other changes include improved security through full adoption of OAuth, further development of Persistance data, and JSON data which is automatically escaped. The gadgets libraries have also been overhauled with lots of improvements as well. I have a meeting with my mentor, Amy, to discuss the timeline for the project, so I will have more details after that. But first, I would like to mention a bit more about PBF. I am moving forward with the intent of finding a site somewhere on campus to host a Joomla! PBF venue on the weekend of June 21-22. In order to accomplish this goal, I will be advertising first and foremost to my fraternity and the student organization called Women@CC, not only because I have a friend with whom I traveled to Spain last year who is in the upper echelons of this organization, but also because...it'd be cool to have more women helping out with the development of Joomla! My hope is that, through contacting these two organizations, they'll get in touch with more interested folks, and hopefully I'll get at least a few nibbles, enough to confirm GT as a venue for the event. Also...anyone know how to insert newlines into blog comments, short of raw <br />'s ? :P Oh, and my lil' sis (the youngest one, anyway) turned 17 yesterday. Happy burfday! :)
