My first release
Version Control
Written by Flavio Adalberto Kubota

It is available an installable package of version control system for article component! You can dowload here. It is not a alpha release yet. I still need to apply many tests, but it is possible to view how the extension is.

This release have some configurations, such as choose if article changes must be published when modified or an admin that should publish a content. Other configurable parameter is if a version became the latest one when published.
There are also a simple notification mail, that will be improved for nexts releases.

This extension is composed of three package: a component and two plugins. To make it work, you need to install all packages and enable both plugins. You also need Joomla! 1.5.4 or higher.

Feel free to give your feedback, telling what is not good, what need to be improved and what is missing in the component!!!

  1. Backend version control is great but the front end editing seems poot, the plugin -version control seems to be the issue as when i disable this i can edit again. It's looking for the versioncontrol.php file which i would assume would be in the component/com_versioncontrol/ folder which is blank and there are no files included for this. Only files are for /admin/component/com_versioncontrol

this could explain the last 3 comment. as the owner stated it hasn't been released at alpha stage as yet so the files are missing that control the front end editing.

i have left this plugin disabled even though it's not tracking the articles in the system i do have it sending the diffrences in an email so i can easily re-edit if need be.
  2. Great stuff well done.
I amtesting on Joomla 1.5.7 localhost and get a lot of warnings
"Trying to get property of non-object in C:\xampp\htdocs\demo\administrator\components\com_versioncontrol\controller.php"
    on line 303

Is this overzealous php settings or bugs to fix?
  3. Hi,
    I love the component..great work!

A question, I use a database prefix other than jos_ and I would like to test this on this site. I have installed it correctly and modified the create table statement to use my prefix so the tables are created fine. but when I try to edit an article i get an error and it looks like it is still looking for the jos_content table (which i don't have...mine is main_content).

Where is your program specifying the jos_ database prefix? I cannot seem to locate it to make the appropriate modification.

    Thanks for your help!
  4. Having issues with installation...I am receiving " jos_versioncontrol_latest' doesn't exist" whenever I try to edit content...looks like this table was not created at install. I am on J 1.5.6. and both plugins are enabled..

    Any ideas?I
  5. Very nice ! keep up this good work. :-)
  6. Very straight forward installation.
If this project provides everything this early vision suggests it will fill one of the long-standing gaps in the Joomla! armoury it would and should be a welcomed inclusion into the core project
  7. Thank you for install and test!! Yes, merge and compare are under development. I just forgot to hide merge menu, it was not working fine. And I'm still improving compare. I'll realease a new package soon.
  8. Fantastic job on this!! I was able to install and get it running without much effort at all. Well done.

So far everything is working ok except:

    1) Merge
    2) Compare

I assume these two features are still under development. As far as basic version control usage, its perfect. Thank you. I will be keeping a close eye on your development. Keep me posted on any updates.
