New release - demo site available
Version Control
Written by Flavio Adalberto Kubota

It's available a new version of version control system for article component. I updated the download page with this new release. I am ready to release an alpha version and start tests.

At this package, you can find merge and compare functionality working.

When merging two versions, it is possible to choose which part of the content to merge. Parts that is from one version is marked in blue and the other version is in orange.

In comparison functionality, there are two ways to compare content, I still do not know which one to release. I left two buttons at page and you can test both ways.

The first one, two versions is located side by side and lines make the relations between them. Colors shows which part was changed, deleted or added.

The second way, it is like we have only one version, where added and deleted lines are colored. Changed lines from two version are in yellows and they are side by side.

A new functionality of this release is that more than one user can edit a content in the same time. This is configurable, it is just for back-end, and it need to open the content througt Version Control Component. Once it is possible to merge two content, then there is no problem several users editing an article.

I set up a demo for you test. If you login, please leave me a comment here.

  1. Nice! This feature will surely come in handy for multi-user sites that use content management. Its been too many times where someone forgets to close an article I want to edit!
  2. A most excellent estension to Joomla 1.5!

Will you integrate the versioning more with the article editing screen (A Parameters -Version or something)?

It would be usefull to have some sort of commenting ability for each version when we edit the article. A seperate box would suffice, but maybe you could go one step further and make 'inline' editing comments (comments within the text of the article that don't show up when displayed in the front end).
  3. I know this problem. It happens because you have deleted or inserted a line that was inside 'another line'. I had to handle HTML content as lines and I needed to define what is a line. I am fixing this. Thank you!!
  4. Looking good!
This extension is going to be essential to a Joomla installation! I'm glad it's been written as an extension rather than in to the core. It means we'll get it a long time before 1.6 eventually comes out :)

A compare between two revisions showed my added and deleted lines of text as "Changed", rather than "Added" or "Deleted", but I understand this isn't even an alpha version. (For reference it's comparing revisions 17 and 18 of article ID 19 "Joomla! Overview").

It's great to see the functionality of e-mailing the different user levels too! Another essential (but currently missing) function.

    Keep up the good work!
  5. NICE!!!
  6. vaneaton, I agree with you. And besides, I'm having problems to place that lines in all browsers.
  7. Love it! When I get some time I will play around with it but it looks and works great.
  8. Verry promissing, keep up the good work.
This is going to make our lives a lot easyer
    :)
  9. I like what I see. I do think I prefer Compare V2. As someone who works with frequent updates to news content, I would find this useful.
