Summary

This is an issue that mainly impacts upgraded sites that are using the hide intro text option, which was changed in 2.5.10 and 3.1.

If a user has selected hide for intro text that option is now being applied to blog/featured views also instead of only to the article view.

THis patch adds a separate parameter to control the display of intro text in the front end blog and featured views and to make this display default to the backward compatible "show" setting.

I'm confused. Why do we need a new option for this? Is there a use case for hiding intro text in blog layouts? Why not just revert http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker/?action=TrackerItemEdit&tracker_item_id=30249 and go back to the old behavior?

In my opinion, there is no new option.

The new bugfix, that is integrated in 2.5.10
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker/?action=TrackerItemEdit&tracker_item_id=30249

breaks featured articles and blog listing.
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=615&t=800218#p3023578

After the update to 2.5.10 = If global setting for introtext is "hidden", the introtexts on bloglayout pages (categories and featured) are hidden. <- new bug!

So the Bugfix #30249 brings new issues.

With the patch of Elin (PR 1046 and #1047), you'll get the old behavior PLUS the bugfix for #30249

@patch
works for me.

I propose simply reverting http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker/?action=TrackerItemEdit&tracker_item_id=30249. I have posted a patch, revert-30249.diff that does this. Please test on 2.5.x branch (or 2.5.10). Thanks.

Either way let's just go. People INSISTED on committing that for whatever unknown reason since it was not a bug but a new incompletely implemented feature but either way we need to get it repaired.

I've posted a patch for v3.1 called revert-30249-31.diff. Please test this one with version 3.1 or master. Thanks!

btw, here's the tracker item with the reasoning as to why the code was added:
Mark, looks like this is part of http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker/?action=TrackerItemEdit&tracker_item_id=30248

@Nick,
pls. read my comment in this tracker item. It never had been a bug, but a misunderstanding, how introtext works.

@patch revert:
works like expected.
with patch, introtext works without fail.
