Things have been very busy for the Joomla Platform since the release of 11.2 on 26 July 2011. Since then, 249 pull requests have been accepted made by 31 individual contributors spanning anything from minor touch-ups to comment blocks, as well as completely new packages.
Our current plans are to release 11.3 soon. Then, before Christmas, 11.4 will be released as the final planned release for 2011. During the period between 11.3 and 11.4, we’ll focus on merging 11.3 into the Joomla CMS so that everything is up to date and ready for the release of the Joomla CMS version 2.5 shipped with the 11.4 version of the platform in January next year.
During this crucial time when we begin to incorporate new features of version 2.5 of the Joomla CMS, it is important that as many members of the Joomla Bug Squad as possible test the migration from version 11.2 to version 11.3 and 11.4.
The first release of the Joomla Platform in 2012 will be version 12.1 and this will likely occur near the end of March. A significant amount of code is marked for deprecation. Details can be found on the Platform Roadmap (currently in a draft state). We anticipate four releases of the Joomla Platform in 2012 occurring near the end of each quarter. This leads us to the availability of version 3.0 of the CMS in July 2012 using the available release of the platform: 12.1 or 12.2.
